Foreign Interference In The 2020 Election

I wholeheartedly believe that foreign election interference is the single greatest threat American Democracy has ever faced.

I have been monitoring foreign interference in US Elections since 2015, when I first saw my aunts and uncles on Facebook re-sharing memes coming from “the bots.”

This account on Twitter is politically charged, has a cover photo outlining automatic speech recognition, and is named “May Be Bot Rsch” — common characteristics of a bot account.

A bot is defined as a fake account on social media that is automated to achieve a certain purpose. There are likely billions of bots on social media, and most of them are programmed to incited discord in our societies and elections. Election interference plagued the 2016 Elections, and is happening at even greater scale in the 2020 Election.

Many of them use natural language processing, NLP, AI technology to be able to respond to users on a platform. Bots can be scarily good at appearing like a real account.

If you’ve never heard about The Internet Research Agency (Russia) or haven’t studied The Mueller Report, go read Zucked by Roger McNamee - and you’ll know what I’m talking about. Let’s take a look at what this looks like in practice.

A botnet in the thousands attempted to spread societal division on Twitter in the threads of NBA Reporter, Adrian Wojnarowski

It really is shocking to see. Below is another image of a botnet that attacked a post on Overlooked’s own Facebook page over a year ago.

Bots spread disinformation to psychographically manipulate opinions within the US electorate.

Thankfully, Overlooked has a solution to defeat the bots.

Our team at Overlooked has eliminated the threat of foreign election interference. We are the safest, fastest, easiest way for you to share a news article with your friends.

& we believe we can make an impact in the 2020 Election.

It is safe to say that these bots are in most of the news and political threads on existing social media. They also appear to engage with one another to maximize engagement and set trends via hashtag / trending algorithms.

There is a digital battlefield online — & to see societal progress, we must fight the good fight against the bots — on The Social News Network —
